Maastricht Automatic Data and Display System The automated ATC system used by Eurocontrol in Maastricht. Maastricht Data Recording All data recorded for evaluation purposes is converted into this 64 Byte format to allow processing by the SASS-C evaluation tool. Mach Number Technique The term used to describe the technique of clearing turbojet aircraft to maintain specified Mach numbers in order to maintain adequate longitudinal separation between successive aircraft at, or climbing or descending to, the same level. Maintainability The measure of the ability of an item to be retained in - or restored to - a specified condition, when maintenance is performed by personnel having specified skill levels, using prescribed procedures and resources at each prescribed level of maintenance and repair. Major Airport An aerodrome capable of sustaining more than 100,000 IFR aircraft take-offs and landings per year. Major Failure Condition (MTCD) Failure condition arising as a result of an MTCD failure classified as major in Safety Analysis. Major Terminal Area A major terminal area is the volume of airspace surrounding one or more principal aerodromes. The lateral extent will vary, depending on the disposition of aerodromes within, or adjacent to the terminal area. The vertical dimensions will vary with the way the airspace and the procedures for handling the air traffic flow are organised. Managed Object Managed objects refer to those data processing and data communication resources that may be managed through the use of the OSI Management protocol. Management Effective use and co-ordination of resources to achieve predefined objectives. Management Activity Activity including : a) Within every EATMP management unit : Unit budget preparation; Management of unit staff; Management of unit work; b) For all EATMP : Providing strategy and guidance; Co-ordinating and monitoring all programmes and services; Planning, co-ordinating and monitoring resources; Facilitating internal and external communications; Developing and maintaining processes and standards.
Management Administrative Domain A management administrative domain is a management domain where the managed objects in the domain are all under the responsibility of one and only one administrative authority. Management Agent The Management Agent performs management operations on managed objects within its local environment as a consequence of management operations communicated from a manager. An Agent may also forward notifications emitted by managed objects to a manager. Management Control Point Management collection and control point for work and cost accumulation assigned to a single responsible individual in the organisation. Management Domain Management domains are resources which for systems management purposes are represented by managed objects. A management domain possesses at least the following quantities: a name which uniquely identifies that management domain, identification of a collection of managed objects which are members of the domain, and identification of any inter-domain relationships between this domain and other domains. Management Hierarchy The structure or organisational arrangements of the management within an organisation. Management Information Base The management information base is a conceptual composite of management information within an open system. Management Information System User A MIS-User is a management application. For the purposes of network management, a MIS-User is allowed to take on one of two possible roles - either an agent role or a manager role. Manager An ATN manager is the term given to a system which requests or otherwise receives information about managed objects. Manoeuvre A change in flight behaviour that is usually equated to a ground-air clearance. A manoeuvre always involves a change in heading, flight level or speed and may additionally be characterised by changes to rate of turn or rate of transition. Manoeuvre Conformance An aspect of flight conformance that expresses how well a flight is adhering to its planned manoeuvre. Quantified by determining whether or not the following situations exist : incorrectly executed manoeuvre non-conformancy; missed manoeuvre non-conformancy; wrong manoeuvre non-conformancy. Manoeuvring Area The part of an aerodrome to be used for the take-off, landing and taxiing or aircraft, excluding aprons. Manpower The total supply of individuals available and qualified for service. Manpower Modelling A model used in conjunction with shift roster software in order to calculate the optimal number of shifts needed each day to provide adequate cover for the operational requirements.
