Residual Error Probability
Residual Error Probability indicates the likelihood that an PDU will be lost, duplicated or corrupted. This probability is defined as the ratio of lost, duplicated or corrupted NSDUs to the total number of NSDUs transmitted by an ATN NS provider, normalised for an NSDU size of 512 octets.
Residual Random Errors
Errors calculated by PAA. These indicate the distribution of residual errors between the position of plots from the radar under study (corrected for Systematic Errors) and the corresponding positions of the reconstituted trajectories.
Resolution
1- In general, a measure of the finest detail distinguishable in an object or phenomenon. In particular, and usually, a measure of the finest detail distinguishable in an image.
2- The Radar Resolution, in azimuth or in range, is the minimum required azimuth or range separation aircraft to detect for 2 or more aircraft, from a given radar, an equivalent number of plots which are not degraded in position and/or in the content due to the proximity of the aircraft.
Resolution Advisory
If proximate aircraft are considered to be a potential threat, the ACAS or TCAS equipment provides two classes of advisories. Resolution Advisories (RA) are generated to indicate manoeuvres that are predicted to maintain or increase separation from threatening aircraft. (see also TA) Either an aural or voice message alerts the pilots attention of the approaching conflict. Guidance is then transmitted to appropriate cockpit displays such as the vertical speed indicator to direct the flight crews attention to follow the necessary escape manoeuvre.
Resolution Advisory Complement
Information provided by one ACAS to another via a Mode S interrogation in order to ensure complementary manoeuvres by restricting the choice of manoeuvres available to the ACAS receiving the RAC.
Resolution Case
The resolution of the radar is its ability to resolve two or more aircraft, in close proximity to each other, into separate radar target reports. Aircraft are considered to be in close proximity when the distance between them, expressed as slant range, and azimuth is within the following limits: -SSR slant range < 2NW and azimuth < (3 x nominal 3dB beam width); - PSR: slant range < (2 x nominal interrogation pulse width) and azimuth < (3 x nominal 3dB beam width).
Responsibility
The fact of being in charge of a certain job or task.
Responsibility Air Space Volume
The airspace volume where the SDPS (RDPS) system provides services.
Responsibility Assignment Matrix
A structure which relates the project organisation structure to the WBS to help ensure that each element of the project's scope of work is assigned to a responsible individual. (Source: Project Management Institute (PMI) - PMBOK guide).
Rest Time
Any period that is not working time. (Council Directive, 1993).
Restricted (Time Restricted Learning)
