System A system tends to be a set of interconnected, interdependent parts, forming an identifiable, organised complex and dynamic whole. It may encompass elements, activities, people or ideas. System Adaptation Parameter (AMAN) Parameter required for system configuration and installation. Refer to Optimisation Strategy Document. System Architecture The arrangement of the component parts of a system and the manner in which they communicate with each other. System Configuration Function Component of the ATM Support Function, in charge of performing on-line configuration changes to the ATS system. System Dynamics A discipline, which illustrates the interdependencies within a current system and reveals a variety of potential actions to be taken. System Flight Plan The core entity which stores the flight intention in the FDPS as well as all applicable constraints during the flight life-cycle of the flight within the area of responsibility. System Flight Plan (SFPL) A term used to denote an entity maintained by the system, comprising the filed flight plan and data assigned as a result of system processing (SSR code, trajectory, SFPL state, etc.). System Life-Cycle The phases a system goes through from initial concept to detailed design and implementation to installation, operation and eventually de-commissioning. System Operator A generic human operator interacting with the system. System Parameter Set of data or variables which constrain the manner of operation of the functions of an automated ATS system. System thinking Thought process that involves:
1.
seeing interelationships (feedback loops) instead of linear cause-effect chains

2.
seeking processes of change over time rather than snapshots.  Systems thinking involves understanding many concepts of system dynamics, most notably, feedback. It helps thinkers see things on three levels: events, patterns of behaviour and system structure.

System Track
A generic entity representing the surveillance data as transmitted by the surveillance system. A track is composed of a sequence of state vectors.
An entity resulting from the merging of plot or track data pertaining to the same aircraft from multiple sensors.
System Trajectory
The trajectory which represents in the system the latest flow, planning and tactical clearances as input to the system via controller input orders and as amended by system monitoring aids.

Systematic Errors Errors calculated by MURATREC and within the subprogram referred to as Parameter Estimation. Systematic errors indicate the bias for each parameter for the radars under evaluation. The errors are determined using selected multi-radar tracks and are expressed as the mean error between the plots of the radar under study and the associated reference track. In order to calculate the systematic errors MURATREC requires two radars fixed in position and one radar fixed in time. Therefore, accurate positions of two radars are required and that plots from one radar are accurately time stamped. Systematic errors are not calculated for mono radar evaluations. Systematic Feedback A small portion of the system’s output taken to, and compared with, one or more earlier stage inputs on a regular and routine basis. Systemic Using system ideas; treating things as systems or from a systems viewpoint. Systems Approach to Training In applying SAT, training development is undertaken on a planned basis in a logical series of steps (training objectives, plans, formulation, validation and evaluation) which constitute a cycle. Systems Engineering Engineering principles rooted in systems theory and applied to systems. Systems Management Systems Management is the set of functions related to the management of various OSI resources and their status across all layers of the OSI architecture. Systems Management Application Entity The SMAE is an application entity for the purpose of systems management communications. Systems Management Function Systems Management Functions encompass the monitoring, controlling, operating, supervising, co-ordination and administration of a communications network. Systems Model A model created to try and help human understanding in respect of some situations where systems theory is being used to try to clarify matters. Systems Theory The sound underlying theory upon which all systems knowledge is based.
