Career Insight The extent to which an individual has realistic career perceptions about oneself and the organisation. Career Ladder See Career Path Career Management An ongoing process of preparing, implementing, and monitoring career plans undertaken by the individual alone or in concert with the organisation (McMahon and Merman, 1987). Career Path A structured series of predetermined on-the-job experiences which result in movement up a hierarchy (McMahon and Merman, 1987). Career Planning A deliberate process of becoming aware of self, opportunities, constraints, choices, and consequences; identifying career-related goals; and "career pathing" or programming work, education, and related developmental experiences to provide the direction, timing, and sequence of steps to attain a specific career goal (McMahon and Merman, 1987). Career Resilience The ability to overcome career setbacks. Caribbean Region A region comprising States signatory to the ICAO Convention who provide Air Navigation Services in their domestic airspace and in international airspace for which they have responsibility. (ICAO Doc. 8733) Carrier The fundamental un-modulated signal. Carrier Phase Tracking GNSS Receiver It is a receiver which, in addition to using normal GNSS data processing techniques all or part of the time, continuously tracks the carrier phases of GNSS navigational satellites and uses the resulting measurements to calculate its navigational solution. Carrier Sense Multiple Access With Collision Detect With CSMA/CD, a terminal monitors (listens to) the line or frequency to determine whether the line or frequency is busy. If a terminal has a message to transmit but the line is busy, it waits for an idle condition before it transmits its message. If two stations begin transmitting at the same time, a collision occurs. When this happens, both terminals cease transmitting before attempting (back off) and each terminal waits a random period of time before attempting a retransmission. The random delay time for each terminal could be different and therefore enables for prioritising the terminals on the network. Carrier to Multi-Path Ratio The ratio of the carrier power received directly (i.e. without reflection) to the multi-path power (i.e. carrier power received via reflection). Carrier-to-Noise-Density Ratio The ratio of the total carrier power to the average noise power in a 1 Hz bandwidth, usually expressed in dBHz. Case Study A technique in which a real or fictional situation or series of events is presented trainees for their analysis and consideration of possible solutions or problems identified. Their findings can be compared with what actually occurred in a real situation.
