Valid Air Traffic Control Licence
An ATC licence, recognised by the designated State licensing authority, permitting a controller to exercise the privileges of the ratings included in that licence, at the places and operational positions or sectors for which the ratings are endorsed. (Ref. Licensing Work Group).

Valid Notice to Airmen NOTAM which has been published and has not reached the end of its validity and has neither been cancelled nor replaced. Valid Rating A rating permitting a controller to exercise the privileges of the rating in accordance with the endorsements included in the ATC licence. (Ref. Licensing Work Group). Validated Mode A See Validation Bit.
The Mode A validation bit is TRUE. Validated Mode C See Validation Bit.
The Mode C validation bit is TRUE. Validated Training Material Takes the form of a well-documented and repeatable package which has been tested and has shown to be effective. Validation 1- The effort through which the appropriateness and meaningfulness of interpretations from scores on a measure can be estimated (SIOP, 1987).
2- The process by which a rating is made valid. (Ref. Licensing Work Group).
The process through  which a desired level of confidence in the ability of a deliverable to operate in a real-life environment may be demmonstrated against a pre-defined level of functionality, operability and performance.
Validation (System) The process of determining whether the requirements for a system or component are complete and correct, the product of each development phase fulfil the requirements or conditions imposed by the previous phase, and the final system or component complies with specified requirements. Validation Bit Radar system indication that the Validation process has been successful. Not to be confused with the Mode A / Mode C code quality (i.e. MADREC valid code). Validity The extent to which theories, models or data accurately describe the phenomena of interest, or the degree to which a test or measure accurately measures that which it is intended to measured. Validity Coefficient A coefficient of correlation showing the strength of relationship in a criterion-related study. (SIOP, 1987). Validity Generalisation applying validity evidence obtained in one or more situations to other similar situations on the basis of simultaneous estimation, meta-analysis, or synthetic validation arguments. Variable A quantity that may take on any one of a specified set of values. (SIOP, 1987). Variable Cost A cost which varies directly with fluctuations in the volume of input or output. Variance A statistic which implies the sum of squares of deviations about the mean. Velocity Error The absolute value of the difference in ground speed of the reference target and the ground speed of the target as estimated by the tracker. VENSIM Modelling software for system dynamics. VENSIM offers a 'Workbench' featuring simulation tools for tracing sources of behaviour in a model. Verbal Co-ordination See Active Mode of Real-Time Civil/Military Co-ordination. Verification Confirmation by examination of evidence that a product, process or service fulfils specified requirements.
