Interpilot Air-to-air Communication
Two-way communication on the designated air-to-air channel to enable aircraft engaged in flights over remote and oceanic areas out of range of VHF ground stations to exchange necessary operational information and to facilitate the resolution of operational problems.
Interrogation Side Lobe Suppression
A method preventing transponder replies to interrogations transmitted through the ground antenna side lobes. The method involves a comparison of the amplitude of the first interrogation pulse with the amplitude of the control pulse.
Interrogator
1- The secondary radar ground station which transmits radio signals for the purpose of inciting replies in a transponder and receive these replies.
2- A ground-based secondary radar transmitter-receiver which scans normally in synchronism with an associated primary radar, transmitting discrete radio signals which repetitiously request all transponders switched to the same mode to reply. The replies received are then displayed on a radar scope, normally together with primary radar responses.

Interrogator Repetition Frequency Average number of interrogations per second transmitted by the radar.
See also Pulse Repetition Frequency Interrogator Responsor The ground based combined transmitter-receiver element of an SSR system. Interruption Thresholds Thresholds to switch from one task to another or to attend to environmental stimuli. Interval Scale A scale in which the difference between scale points at all points of the scale is equal (Kline, 1995). Interview A structured, or unstructured, one-to-one or one-to-several on a panel conversation with a job-applicant for the purpose of identifying knowledge, skills, abilities and behaviours that may be predictive of success in subsequent training and in the job. To this effect biographical, or situational, performance and or motivation related information from the applicant is taken into consideration in order to make a decision on employment. Intra-domain routing information exchange protocol In the ATN, the ISO 10589 IS-IS intra-domain routing information exchange protocol may be used to exchange connectivity and topology information between ATN routers within a routing domain. Inventory Analysis The inventory analysis consists of the Radar Statistics program (also referred to as Rasta) and four graphics inventory programs. For Mode S purposes four additional displays are existing. Investigation A process conducted for the purpose of accident prevention which includes the gathering and analysis of information, the drawing of conclusion, including the determination of causes and, when appropriate, the making of safety recommendations. Investment This can refer to either long-term employment of capital for purchase: (1) of securities, (2) of assets required for production purposes or could be short-term if held for less than one year. Ionosphere The atmospheric shell characterised by a high ion density. Its base is at about 70 or 80 kilometres and it extends to an indefinite height. The ionosphere is classically subdivided into four layers. The free electrons in this region refract radio waves. Ionospheric Refraction Changes in a signal's propagation speed as it travels through the ionosphere. Ipsative Scores The total number of points of any test where there are forced choices and each one is scored. Item Element of the content of a training event (ranging from the level of a topic to smaller). Item Analysis 1- The process of assessing certain characteristics of test items, usually the difficulty value, the discriminating power, and sometimes, the correlation with an external criterion. (CDSEPT, 1996).
