Code A combination of data bits contained in signals transmitted by an SSR Transponder in reply to an SSR Interrogator. Code (SSR Code) The number assigned to a particular multiple pulse reply signal transmitted by a transponder in Mode A or Mode C. Code Division Multiple Access A multiple access scheme for digital communications which uses spread spectrum modulation and orthogonal codes to avoid interference and permits many users to occupy all of the transponder bandwidth all of the time. Code of Accounts Any numbering system used to uniquely identify each element of the WIBS. (Source: Project Management Institute (PMI - PMBOK guide). Code Train The sequence of bracket (framing) and code pulses in an SSR Mode A or Mode C reply. Coder/Decoder The CODEC converts an analogue signal that represents the voice data and approximates that signal by a bit stream. At the other end of the line, the bit stream is used to reconstruct the analogue data. Cognition Human thought processes and their component parts such as perception, memory and decision-making. Cognitive Model Occasionally (more correctly) called ‘model of cognition’. A model of cognition can take many forms, such as a paper model showing the relationships between cognitive processes and behaviour or simulation models of cognition for interaction analysis, etc. Cognitive Processes 1- Basic cognitive activities taking place within the memory, involving coding and thinking processes (Eysenck, 1994).
2- Almost all skills (and job tasks) have both cognitive and non-cognitive components, but a cognitive skill is predominantly cognitive in nature.
Cognitive Psychology A general approach to psychology which emphasises the internal mental processes including thinking and perception.
Cognitive Skills Cognitive processes described in terms of the ability of the individuals to carry out certain types of tasks consistently. (Eysenck, 1994). Cognitive Task Analysis The framework and methods used to analyse cognitive structures and/or processes that support job performance. CTA differs from traditional task analysis in many ways, including the goals, methods used and data produced. Cognitive Task Analysis Method Combination of data collection and analysis techniques used to perform a cognitive analysis. The CTA methods include: critical decision method, diagramming method, rating method, sorting methods, team communication method, and verbal report method.

Collaboration To work jointly with others in an intellectual endeavour. Collaborative Decision-Making A means to enable decisions based on the sharing of real-time data about actual events that incorporate preferences and constraints. Collimation The process of calculating the bias model parameters describing the systematic errors between the measurements of two co-located radar (e.g., PSR and SSR). Collision Risk Modelling A mathematical process by which several operating parameters are assessed to determine a risk of collision which must remain below an established target level of safety. These models consider lateral and vertical risk of collision. Co-located An expression used for antennas which are at the same physical location, but may be on-mounted, back-to-back mounted, etc., and may use a common turning gear. Combination Criteria The criteria with respect to azimuth and range coincidence which a primary radar plot and an SSR plot must meet to be considered to have come from the same aircraft and therefore to be able to be combined. Combination Loss Only one target report (i.e., Combined Plot) is expected per scan per radar per target for combined radar. If the combination of PRI and SSR detection fails (i.e., combination loss), there will be two separate plots (i.e., one PRI plot and one SSR plot) for the same target. Combined Usually reserved for plots and tracks, it is a radar message composed from a PRI and a SSR detection. Combined Plot A radar plot where PR and SSR information have been fused into one plot. Combined Target Report A target report detected by both PSR and SSR and such that both detections were sufficiently adjacent to be combined into one target report. Combined VOR And TACAN A navigation aid providing VOR azimuth, TACAN azimuth, and TACAN Distance Measuring Equipment (DME) at one site. Comm-A A 112 bit Mode S interrogation containing the 56-bit MA message field. This field is used by the uplink standard length message (SLM) and broadcast protocol. Comm-B A 112 bit Mode S reply containing the 56-bit MA message field. This field is used by the downlink standard length message (SLM) and broadcast protocol. Comm-C A 112 bit Mode S interrogation containing the 80-bit MA message field. This field is used by the uplink extended length message (ELM) protocol. Comm-D A 112 bit Mode S reply containing the 80-bit MA message field. This field is used by the downlink extended length message (ELM) protocol.
