Note: An Air Traffic Services Reporting Office may be established as a separate unit or combined with an existing unit, such as another Air Traffic Services Unit or a unit of the Aeronautical Information Service.
Air Traffic Services Unit (ATSU) A generic term meaning: Air Traffic Control Unit, Flight Information Centre or Air Traffic Services Reporting Office. (Ref. ICAO Doc 9569 Definition).
Air Traffic Control Human Machine Interface Human machine interfaces for controller and supervisory tasks.
Air Traffic Flow Management En-route Delay Delay caused by regulation based on traffic volume which has a reference location classified as AS (Airspace) or SP (Special Point). (Eurocontrol CFMU)


AIRAC AIP Amendment
Permanent changes of operationally significant information to be contained in the AIP, and published in accordance with AIRAC procedures.
AIRAC AIP Supplement
Temporary changes of operationally significant information to be contained in the AIP, and published by means of special pages in accordance with AIRAC procedures.
Airborne Collision Avoidance System
1- A way in which aircraft themselves can be protected by the use of short-term Conflict Alert, Ground Computers Process Radar and Flight Plan Information to detect possible conflicts.
2- An aircraft based system based on Secondary Surveillance Radar (SSR) transponder signals which operates independently of ground-based equipment to provide advice to the pilot on potential conflicting aircraft that are equipped with SSR transponders. (ICAO).
Airborne Data Bus
The airborne data bus is the physical connection between avionics system elements carrying the digital data. Presently the defined bus types are: ARINC 429. Low speed, single transmitter, point to point; ARINC 629. Medium speed, multi-transmitter, linear bus; ARINC 636. Very high speed, daisy chain, using optical fibre, ARINC 646. High speed, multi-transmitter, linear bus; ARINC 659. Special Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA) back plane bus.
Airborne Data Link Processor
An aircraft resident processor that is specific to a particular air-ground data link (e.g. Mode S) which provides channel management, and segments and/or reassembles messages for transfer. It is connected on one side to aircraft elements common to all data link systems, and on the other side to the air/ground link itself.
Airborne Earth Station
The AES is an aircraft installed radio set capable of communicating via satellite with Ground Earth Stations (GESs). It comprises the Satellite Data Unit (SDU), the Radio Frequency Unit (RFLT), the High-Power Amplifier (HPA). The Low-Noise Amplifier/Duplexer (LNA/DPLX), Beam Steering Unit (BSU) or Antenna Control Unit (ACU) and High or Long Gain Antenna. The AES receives and processes radio frequency signals from the satellite, and formats and transmits RF signals from the aircraft. The AES interfaces the space segment with the airborne data equipment and the airborne voice equipment.
