Eligible flight (MTCD) A flight is eligible for MTCD calculations if : a) a system trajectory is available, and; b) the flight will be under control of one, or more, controllers of the area of operation at some moment in time, and; c) the time to entry in the area of operation is less than a pre-defined configuration parameter. A flight is no longer eligible for MTCD calculations if it leaves the area of operation. Emergency Phase A generic term meaning, as the case may be, uncertainty phase, alert phase or distress phase. End of Validity (=Item C) The ten figure date-time group at which the NOTAM ceases to be in force and valid. End Routing Domain A routing domain that only routes Packet Data Units from/to its own routing domain. End Service / System A system that contains the seven OSI layers and contains one or more end user application processes. Endorsement An entry in an ATC licence indicating the air traffic control unit and the operational positions or sectors at which a controller may exercise the privileges of the valid rating or ratings included in the ATC licence. Endorsements fall into three categories as follows: Licence Endorsement, Rating Endorsement, Unit Endorsement.
Note: individual licensing authorities may wish to expand the licence endorsement procedure to include other functions, procedures or work practices such as Supervisor or Examiner).
Enhanced Air Traffic Management and Mode S Implementation in Europe
A EUROCONTROL programme developed in close co-operation with the EUROCONTROL Member States' Air Traffic Services in order to bring about a significant improvement in Air Traffic Management system capacity in Europe and to accommodate traffic increases forecast for the turn of the century. EASIE is aimed at extending the automation of air traffic control functions in order to improve controller productivity, and airspace use, thereby contributing to increased system capacity while maintaining a high level of safety. The programme will be realised in two distinct phases: a System Design Phase starting in mid-1990 and lasting about 5 years and a Realisation Phase of approximately 10 years.
En-Route
A phase of navigation covering operations between a point of departure and termination of a mission.
En-Route Airspace
En-route airspace is the volume of airspace outside terminal areas, where the climb, cruise and descent phases of flight take place and within which various types of air traffic services are provided.
Entity
An active element in any layer which can either be a software entity (such as a process) or a hardware entity (such as an intelligent I/O chip).
Entry
The (moment of) crossing of an incoming Track or Trajectory with a predefined radar coverage area.
Entry Fix
The first reporting point, determined by reference to a navigational aid, over which an aircraft passes or is expected to pass upon entering a flight information region or a control area.
