See also Aircraft Segment. Total System Error See Sum (of errors), Total System, Navigation System Error, Flight Technical Error.

Tower Control
The ATC task in an aerodrome control unit responsible for the provision of ATC service in respect of flights that are landing and taking off and other traffic that is on the active runway(s).
Track
1- A target report resulting from the correlation, by a special algorithm (tracking) of a succession of radar reported positions for one aircraft. The report normally contains smoothed position and speed vector information.
2- Time sequence of state vectors of an object estimated by some real time filtering technique using radar plot data as input.
Track Accuracy The probability distribution of the differences between the reference state and the tracker estimation of that state.
Track Accuracy Analysis Examines the accuracy between the trajectories reconstructed with MURATREC and the corresponding track. Track Data Track data is often used to refer to a collection of track-related data such as : current (3D) position, previous observed positions, current ground Speed, current heading and current mode-of-flight. Track Deletion (Lag [Delay]) See Deletion (Lag [Delay]). Track Detection Analysis Defines and detects a set of anomalies in track creation. Furthermore, it calculates measurements for each of these track events (e.g., track initiation, track drop, track recovery, etc.). Track Drop Defined as the situation in which, while the object is still inside the radar Operational Coverage Volume the track is stopped. Track Drop Rate The number of Track Drops per Track hour. See Drop rate. Track Hour Means that during a period of one hour there is continuously one track or equivalently, N tracks during 1/N hour. Track Initiation (Lag) See Initiation (Lag). Track Position Error See Position Error Track. Track Recovery Period The period between a Track Drop and the subsequent Track Recovery. Track Start Rate The number of Track Starts per second and per squared meter. Track Stop The stopping of the Track Continuation process.

Track Stop Position (Mean) Error The (mean of the) error in Position (horizontal/vertical) at the moment of Track Stop. See also Position Error Tracks. Track Stop Rate The number of Track Stops per hour and per aircraft Track. Track Swap The situation that a track is continued with target reports corresponding to a different object. Tracker A computer program that creates tracks from radar signals. Tracker Evaluation Measures A set of Quality measures describing the operational performance of a radar tracker or tracking computer program. Tracker Performance Characteristics See Tracker Evaluation Measures. Traffic Advisory An indication given to the flight crew that a certain intruder is a potential threat. Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System An airborne collision avoidance system based on radar beacon signals which operates independent of ground based equipment. TCAS-I generates traffic advisories only. TCAS-II generates traffic advisories, and resolution (collision avoidance) advisories in the vertical plane. Traffic Avoidance Advice Advice provided by an air traffic services unit specifying manoeuvres to assist a pilot to avoid a collision. Traffic Information Information issued by an air traffic services unit to alert a pilot to other known or observed air traffic which may be in proximity to the position or intended route of flight and to help the pilot to avoid a collision. Traffic Information Service Traffic Information Service provides a cockpit display of traffic information of all targets within 7 NM of the aircraft requesting that information. TIS processes Mode S surveillance data from the ground and displays the data on a TCAS 1-like display. Traffic Management (AMAN) Is a function of the AMAN tactical prober which enables the user of on-line probing of modifying the landing direction, block reservation and parametre. Traffic Management Unit The entity in ARTCCs and designated terminal facilities responsible for direct involvement in the active management of facility traffic. Usually under the direct supervision of an assistant manager for traffic management. Traffic Orientation Scheme Strategic ATFM tool which determines the routing of air traffic on the major European traffic flows during the summer peak season. The TOS is intended to improve the balancing of ATS demand and capacity and to permit ATS to provide the most expeditious service to GAT during the peak periods of activity. Trainee Air Traffic Controller An air traffic controller who is training to obtain additional ratings or endorsements. (Ref. Licensing Work Group).
