6.2  Briefing & Debriefing
6.2.1  Briefing
The aim of briefing is to prepare the student for the training session.

6.2.1.1`Briefing before commencement of training
A detailed briefing should be conducted before commencement of Simulator Training. The students should be given an overview of the training syllabus and its breakdown. The format of the training sessions and the evaluation test. He must know what is expected of him, in addition to what he has already leant in the CSS / JOT sessions. Brief him about what standards are expected from him during the training. Highlight the acceptable limitations pertaining to various exercises. This will help to work towards the attainment of these standards. Give him a rough guide as to how he should go about preparing for his training.
6.2.1.2 Briefing before the first session
Brief the student in detail about the various exercises to be covered during the session and the correct techniques to tackle them. Highlight the common mistakes generally committed and the corrective action. Spend more time explaining about the more difficult exercises. Clear all doubts during the briefing session so that he is better prepared to handle them. Ask some simple technical questions so that student is on his toes and always come prepared before the session.
6.2.1.3 Subsequent session
Before starting the briefing for the current session, go over the exercises covered during the last session pointing out where he went wrong and the correct method to overcome his mistakes. Tell him that he will be practicing these again during the current session. Emphasize that he should be careful and not make the same mistakes again.
6.2.2 Debriefing
Debriefing is carried out to review and analyze the performance and find ways to improve it.
Even though the mistakes are pointed out and corrected during the simulator session, it is not possible to completely go over all the points because of the time constraint. Also because of the stress during flying a student is less receptive at that time. It is a good practice to note down all the mistakes committed during flying to be debriefed after the session. The student is less tense and not under pressure and thus can simulate and analyze his faults better.
