The Instructor must emphasize to the pupil to get into the habit of strictly following the Standard Operating Procedures.
1.5.9 LEARNING OBSTACLES
An instructor must be aware of the many and varied obstacles to learning in order to overcome them. These obstacles may range from disinterest and distractions to complete mental blocks, and may originate from such diverse sources as family troubles or misconceptions carried over from previous instruction. The following are some of the obstacles the Instructor must keep in mind while instructing :-
1.5.9.1 Fear, Anxiety, or Timidity
Fear, anxiety, or timidity place additional burdens on the flight instructor's ability to teach effectively. These are obstructions which limit the student's perceptive ability, and limit the formation of insights from the few perceptions which find their way into consciousness. The student must have confidence in the instructor and feel comfortable in the airplane. One of the most important tasks for the instructor is providing this atmosphere for learning. Instructors sometimes forget that a beginning student is entering for the first time into an environment that is taken for granted by the instructor. This affects some students more adversely than it does others.
1.5.9.2 Unfair Treatment
Students who believe an instructor is not conscientiously considering and evaluating their efforts, do not learn well. If students feel that the instructor is not genuinely interested, motivation will suffer, no matter how much desire there is to learn to fly.
Motivation also suffers when students believe the instructor is making unreasonable demands for performance and progress. Assigning goals which are considered difficult, but attainable, provides challenges which students are eager to meet. However, if the attainment of the goals is impossible, there is a feeling of futility, and performance suffers.
1.5.9.3 Impatience
Impatience is a greater deterrent to learning than is generally recognized. Impatience often results from a failure to understand the need for the basic instruction which necessarily precedes attainment of the ultimate goal. It can be curbed by clearly establishing the intermediate goals and identifying their significance in the overall training process.
