Note : Mumansk has SELCAL capability. 7.1.11 The use of CPDLC is expected by Magadan (GDXB) when routed over RAMEL or ORVIT. Portions of Polar 3 (RAMEL, G491) are above 84.N and experience has shown that CPDLC coverage can be intermittent in that area. It seems solar activity may also impact your ability to log on to CPDLC. The standard for logging on is normally 15 to 45 minutes prior to the FIR/ entry point. It is important to remember however, 1 hour to 45 minutes out from RAMEL or ORVIT you are in Anchorage airspace and are under their control. If CPDLC contact made with Magadan while in Anchorage airspace, you cannot comply with any of their instructions until inside Magadan’s airspace. 7.1.12 Normally for flights on Polar 1 which Airindia is likely to operate there would be no need to contact Magadan. However for cases when aircraft have no contact with Murmansk they may contact Magadan and maintain necessary ATC communication with a request for relaying position reports/messages. Issue I 28.08.2007 Rev. 0 8. COMPANY COMMUNICATIONS 8.1 Satcom SATCOM is typically available south of 81N prior to passing over or abeam the North Pole, and will be inoperative until approximately 80N on the Russian side of the North Pole due to lack of satellite coverage. Crew are to be in possession of all SATCOM numbers and telephone numbers of Airindia Operations offices for phone patch wherever these are available. The dispatcher would provide a copy of the same during preflight briefing. Primary company communications in these areas are via ACARS data link or SATCOM VOICE. It is worth noting that SATCOM uses the ADIRU for stabilization, steering, and position data for its transmitting unit. Should you divert and wish to use SATCOM on the ground, the ADIRU must be aligned in order for SATCOM to function. 8.2 Flight Following |
