Gadolinium is highly magnetic, especially at low temperatures, and is used as an absorber of neutrons in nuclear reactors and as an alloying element for other metals. gage (measuring instrument). A gage (also spelled gauge) is a measuring instrument. There are many different types of gages. A pressure gage is used to indicate the amount of pressure being applied to a fluid.
