a. The certificate holder is authorized to conduct a pretakeoff contamination check or use an approved alternate procedure as described below.
(1)
At any time the conditions are such that frost, ice, or snow may reasonably be expected to adhere to the aircraft, the certificate holder will check the aircraft prior to takeoff or use an approved alternate procedure. The check/procedure shall ensure that the wings, control surfaces, propellers, engine inlets, and other critical surfaces are free of frost, ice, or snow.
(2)
Procedures for the conduct of this check or its alternate are described or referenced in this paragraph.
Reference operations manual page 600-12.
(3)
In addition to the above, the pilots shall demonstrate knowledge to operate in ground icing conditions during the initial and recurrent flight checks.
